You know you're procrastinating when...
1. Your desk is clean.
2. You've taught yourself to install that second hard drive.
3. You've looked at 250 entries on Illustration Friday, and even left comments on some.
4. You're blogging about procrastination.

Secrecy
The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators has an illustration competition going on - Rainbow's End. I'm a little paranoid that if I post my sketches here someone could steal my concept, hence why I've only been posting on Not Art.

Morning Pages
My sister gave me The Artist's Way for my birthday, and I'm finally getting around to giving it a try. I'm supposed to write three pages of long-hand stream-of-consciousness whatever every morning. The three times I actually did it were not so hard, and yet making myself do it every day is. The book says if it's hard that probably means it's exactly what you need. That seems right, yet doesn't help first thing in the morning when I just want to drink my coffee and check my email.

Project LABC
So, I've been out at my parents' house for the past week, bumming around and watching the marathon of Project Runway. I am so jealous of the fashion department at Parsons. When I was there the chair off the illustration department was not wise, caring and helpful like Tim Gunn. The assistant chair made me cry on more than one occasion. I think I need to do my own Project Illo, and threaten to kick myself off the island every week if I don't work hard enough.

February
February. I hate it almost as much as March. Everyone is sick and cranky and there is no sun. I guess I should look at it as a challenge not to lose momentum, and stick to my routine, but this time of year makes me so pessimistic.

Songs to drive to
So Stacey's post about music for walking totally made me want to make my own list, and since I'm being self-indulgent and wasting the entire day anyway, here's my list of songs that give me that happy expansive feeling when I'm making the 2 hour drive to Sag Harbor by myself, and singing along:
"It's Oh So Quiet" - Bjork
Reminds me of the ads for Sex and the City with the red baloons.
"Girl" - Beck
My current favorite.
"American Music" - Violent Femmes
Gives me great nostalgia (for pumpkin picking, bizarrely.)
"Working Undercover" - They Might Be Giants
So hard to pick from TMBG.
"I Saw a Bird Fly Away" - Dar Williams
"Golden Years" - David Bowie
"Flagpole Sitta" - Harvey Danger
"Long-Forgotten Fairytale" - The Magnetic Fields
I might never have discoverd them if not for Sims Online. how tragic that would have been.
"Bizarre Love Triangle" - New Order
"Sparkle" - Phish
"Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" - Rufus Wainwright
"Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" - Squeeze
Great Virginia Beach memories.
"Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" - Stevie Wonder
One of my all time favorites, reminds me of working at Black Cat Books.
"Doctor Worm" - They Might be Giants
"Milbrook" - Rufus Wainwright
"Summertime" - The Sundays
Possibly the happiest song ever.
"Do Your Thing" Basement Jaxx
From the Bend it Like Beckham soundtrack.
"The Luckiest Guy On The Lower East Side" - The Magnetic Fields
"14th Street" - Rufus Wainwright
"The Good Life" - Weezer
"Mixed Bizness" - Beck
"The Last of the Famous Interational Playboys" - Morrisey
A good day
I've decided yesterday was a good day. i spent most of the day thinking it was a bad day, but Mandy came home from school and turned it around by eating broccoli (never happened before, even when we told her it was baby trees), and asking me to read Where the Wild Things Are, Bears Bears Bears, and In the Night Kitchen over and over. She likes Sendak and They Might Be Giants, my work is done (until it's time for Jane Austen.)
